Ruth: For some years Ruth volunteered at an out patient clinic for the rehabilitation of clients with substance abuse problems. Ruth later taught at/managed a literacy program for the Travellers. The Traveller Language has an oral tradition that goes back a long way in Irish Mythology. Ruth worked with a program designed to encourage Travellers to develop their educational skills and to introduce them to an education that a nomadic lifestyle did not encourage. During the 12th Century the word Tinker (Tinceard - Tin Craft) appeared in many Celtic documents — clearly a group of Traveling Crafts people who were part of the Irish Society and Irish Economy. The Irish Travellers are direct descendants of industrial communities that lived in Ireland in Celtic and pre-Celtic times.
