Patrick and Denise:
from the Portland, Oregon area. Patrick, a potter, and Denise, a language specialist, started the Camino in central France, the full 1000 mile pilgrimage.
Patrick had lost his studio and had then been house sitting and caring for animals. Denise, with 5 languages, had been teaching at a college that had severely trimmed their language program. Denise was then doing translations for publishers and businesses, and acting as a translator in the court system.
On a ridge with a windmill and solar panel farm, there was a monument and a plaque that Denise translated. The monument commemorated the Franco forces murdering 250 locals in 1936. With the building of the monument, 300 additional victims were discovered in a mass grave.
